What’s the most annoying trope in books or movies?
I’ve always found it irritating that movies make dads out to be idiots. Men have written great works of literature, made beautiful art, and wrote beautiful music.
Men were designed by God to work, provide for the family, protect the family, and lead the home. Men were not made idiots. They were made image bearers of God.
Likewise, women were made to bear children, teach their children, submit to their husbands, and run the home under their husbands’ leadership. Women were not made idiots either. They are also image bearers.
Yet, this was damaged by sin. Sin entered the world through Adam by the temptation of Eve, who was tempted by the serpent. Therefore, it is sin that makes us stupid. The movies need to stop blaming men and show we are all fallen, but capable of great things.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
