If you had to switch lives with a fictional character for a week, who would you choose?

I would rather spend my days reading, resting, and eating than actually work in a world that resembles Morgoth more. I think that is the point of the Hobbit.

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who is respectable. He fits in comfortably with the easy life. However, he craves a sense of adventure that he inherited from his mother’s side, the Took side, of the family.

We can’t stay in the comfortable life we want. This world is full of evil dragons seeking to steal and devour. In fact, we are quite dragonish ourselves.

That is why we need God to restore us to a proper relationship with Him. We need to be saved so we can find our eternal rest in heaven. There we will enjoy God forever.

Bad news: we have all lied, used God’s name in vain, stolen, and looked with lust. We are lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterers at heart. We all deserve to burn in Hell for all eternity.

Good news: God is rich in mercy. He sent Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, to live a sinless life, die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and rise from the dead three days later. God calls all people everywhere to repent (turn from sin) and trust in Jesus Christ to save them from sin.

God will seal His people with the Holy Spirit, who keeps His people saved, transforms them from evil to Good, and keeps them holy. God makes everything better.
